Plot:
Retired blind colonel lives in a house with his unloved family. He is quite hot-tempered person and nobody can cope with him. Frank likes drinking and thinking about the days of old.

Charlie is a poor student of prestigious college. His friends are the children of rich parents, so he seems like white crow among them. One day Charlie gets into trouble. Accidentally, he sees his friends trying to mean tricks on school director. Finally, he has to make a choice: either to tell everything and save the reputation or to keep silence and leave the school.

To earn some money before Thanksgiving Day Charlie finds a job. He has to look after colonel frank. They can hardly come to terms for the first time, but still Charlie takes this job. Only when he starts working he gets to know about colonel’s plans.

Frank’s decided to visit New-York, enjoy the wealthy life for the last time and then to die. Frank’s life is absolutely uninteresting. All that he loved sank into oblivion. And his desire to die is absolutely evident.
Frank and Charlie start their trip. They spend three crazy days in the best New-York hotel, visit the best restaurants. Charlie gets used to the colonel. Step by step they become friends. When Frank decides to commit a suicide, Charlie saves him.

When friends come back to the native town, Charlie faces his problem again. Now Frank helps him.

I don’t know how Winston Groom could think of this story but I know that Robert Zemeckis perfectly put it into wonderful movie. It’s really one of the best drama movies I’ve ever seen!
