The Pianist movie

The veteran Roman Polanski filmed an autobiographical book by Wladyslaw Szpilman. It tells about pianist and Polish Jew Wladyslaw Szpilman who could avoid death camps during World War II. He hided among the ruins of Warsaw.

Actor Adrian Brody won the Oscar for Best Actor, and Polanski got Oscar for Best Director.

This movie is certainly one of the best biography movies!

 

Plot

Wladyslaw Szpilman plays on piano. He is a genius and his music is loved by Polish people. Szpilman works on the local radio. The life of his family (brother, sister and parents) takes its normal course. But the country stays at the war’s door. German army has already conquered the Polish territories. Ruled by Hitler the soldiers wage a war against Jewish citizens. They are forbidden to enter cafes and shops. They can’t walk on the sidewalks.

Then all Polish Jews are located in a special camp – Ghetto. People there can’t earn money and live normal life. They are slaves. Wladyslaw Szpilman with family tries to survive in these awful conditions.

But one day soldiers kill his family. He stays alone with no chances to stay alive. However, Wladyslaw’s friends help him. He hides in one of conspiratorial apartments.

Spielmann goes through the war. Finally, he is saved. But these long 5 years won’t be forgotten…

Roman Polanski perfectly reflected the events of that time. He remembers the details of that war. He knows who difficult it was for Jew to survive.

The movie has special amazing and a bit sad atmosphere.
